NSS Competition Math Program has been designed to helpstudents acquire the knowledge and skills required to have communications, representations, connections, and transitions from arithmetic skill to algebraic, critical, analytical, spatial, creative, and mathematical (reasoning) thinking skills, and to the logical sense to have an insight into universe and predictions about nature and science, and to study in order to be successful in upper-level Mathematics and collegial courses for attending college.

Competition Math Club will, at the same time will aid students in excelling at:

  • School GPA (Grade Points Average)
  • Standardized State of Florida Tests that assess the Mathematics Florida Standards

* FSA (Florida Standards Assessment)

* EOC (End of Course)

  • College Admission/Entrance Tests

* SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)

* ACT (American College Test)

This year we will together think outside the box and see beyond the obvious to pursue the sweet smell of success.

What is Mathcounts?

MATHCOUNTS Competition Program is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging "bee" style contests. The program exists in all 50 states plus U.S. territories and the Department of Defense and State Department schools.

For more than 30 years, MATHCOUNTS is one of the country's largest and most successful education partnerships involving volunteers, educators, industry sponsors and students. President Barack Obama and former Presidents George W. Bush, William J. Clinton, George H.W. Bush and Ronald W. Reagan have all recognized MATHCOUNTS in White House ceremonies. 

 

Club Description

Students who apply for this club will be assessed and evaluated. Team(s) will be determined by the sponsor based on preliminary test(s) given and Mr. Yakisma will determine 6 or 8 NSS MathCounts Team members called as Mathletes. Mathletes will compete in several Math competitions throughout the year such as Mathcounts, Mu-Alpha-Theta, Mu-Alpha Math League, AMC 8, and Math League, etc.

Requirements:

  • Being a middle school student who is taking high school course.
  • Regular attendance at weekly club day(s) for NSS Mathcounts and NSS Mu-Alpha-Theta Competition Clubs)
  • Completing homework each week
  • Full cooperation with math coach volunteers, assistants, parent volunteers, and a polite respectful attitude towards others
  • Following New Springs Schools policies, including those regarding discipline and maintaining grades
  • Commitment to attending County and State competitions
  • Self-motivation, hard work and dedication

II-NSS MU-ALPHA-THETA COMPETITION CLUB.

What is Mu-Alpha-Theta?

 

New Springs Schools Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society is currently accepting new members. The Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society organization was formed in our school for the purpose of fostering interest, developing strong scholarships, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics.

 

Club Description

 

Any students who are taking high school math courses (Algebra-I Honors and Geometry, etc.) can apply to NSS Mu-Alpha-Theta Honor Society. Mr. Yakisma will assess and evaluate the applicants and then make two groups of 4 members so-called Mathletes out of the students who come to Mu Alpha Theta meetings on a regular basis for Algebra-I Team & Geometry Team. Each team member will take several math competitions (Mathcounts, Mu-Alpha-Theta, Mu-Alpha Math League, AMC 8, and Math League, etc.) throughout the year as a team and individuals.

 

* Any student that comes to Mu Alpha Theta meetings on a regular basis is eligible to attend the competitions and to compete as individuals. Teams will be determined by sponsor based on preliminary test(s) given.

III-NSS MU-ALPHA MATH LEAGE COMPETITION CLUB

NSS Mu-Alpha Math League Competition Program is a middle school competition program that is made up of 6th Grade Mu-Alpha-Math League Club and (7 & 8)th Grade Mu-Alpha Math League Club.      

6th Grade Mu-Alpha Math League Club:    

Any 6th grade student can apply to this club. 4 NSS 6th Grade Mu-Alpha Math League Team members so-called Mathletes will determined by sponsor based on preliminary test(s) given. Mathletes will take several math competitions (Mu-Alpha-Math League, AMC 8, and Math League, etc.) throughout the year as a team and individuals.

* Team members are only eligible to attend the competitions and to compete as individuals.

Club Schedule:

Mathletes will take several math competitions (Mu-Alpha-Math League, AMC 8, and Math League, etc.) throughout the year as a team and individuals.
